still craving...

I think it's safe to say that most of us are still full from the Thanksgiving feast(s) over the last several days, but if I'm being honest, there's one dish I'm still craving...

Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Butternut Squash.

I know what you're thinking... Roasted vegetables? Not the mashed potatoes with butter, or the pumpkin pie and whipped cream, or the ever-amazing green bean casserole?

Yes, it's in all seriousness that I tell you that these are the best roasted vegetables I have ever had.

*disclaimer: this photo was taken pre-roasting. post-roasting there was no time for photos, only consumption

I knew I wanted to bring brussels sprouts to our Mom's Thanksgiving and after exhausting a knockoff recipe of the sprouts from Pizza Bella in KC, I decided to scour the interwebs. I stumbled on this adorable blog and fell in love with every recipe, but in particular the Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Butternut Squash. Her photography won me over. Doesn't it just look like fall on a pan? The cranberries are the perfect touch and how can you go wrong with curry?

{Here's the recipe from Shutterbean:

  • 1 lb. Brussels Sprouts, trimmed & halved
  • 1 medium butternut squash peeled & cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 apple, cut into 1/2 pieces
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon aged balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • kosher salt & fresh cracked pepper
Preheat oven to 400F. Spread the Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, cranberries, apple, & onions on a large rimmed baking sheet.In a small bowl mix oil, vinegar, and curry powder together. Drizzle over the vegetable mixture and toss to evenly coat. Sprinkle brown sugar over the vegetables and place baking sheet in the oven. Roast for 20 minutes, gently stir and continue to roast for 20-25 minutes longer, or until vegetables are tender and nicely browned.}

Okay, I'm going to stop writing this post so I can go to the store to pick up the ingredients again. These might just have to become a staple in our home.

We can't wait to hear what you all are still craving.

What were your favorite Thanksgiving recipes this year?

two halls are better than one

Last Thursday, S and I were invited to attend a Kansas City blogger event at Halls Crown Center, and of course we said yes -- We both love Halls Plaza and were excited to see what the new stores were like at Crown Center.

The night began with a glass of wine and an overview of the new layout. We then made quick visits to Halls for Her, Kid Oh!, Men's Apparel, Downstairs for Him, Deck the Halls, Accessories, and finally Cosmetics. The store manager also gave us a great overview of the latest looks and trends. And at the end, we were on to shop for ourselves.

After leaving the fabulous event with a few lovely gifts from Halls and some purchases of our own, we both said to ourselves, "how have we not been shopping here?"

The Crown Center store is the perfect compliment to its big sister store on the Country Club Plaza -- Not only is it a convenient location in the heart of downtown, but with a smaller layout and a friendlier price point, this is definitely going to be a store we visit frequently. As you start your holiday shopping, we definitely suggest you check it out for a fun party dress, the perfect accessory to complete your look, or memorable gifts for your family.

See some of our shots below and let us know when you make a visit.

We can't wait to hear about your great finds at Halls Crown Center!

blue velvet

Now that our wonderful wedding has taken place (more posts on that come) I can put the focus back on decorating our home!

I feel so bad for my poor, neglected house! I've been distracted.

Wedding planning can do that to a girl.

First up?  New drapes in the dining room. I purchased these beautiful navy
blue drapes from West Elm.

Don't you just love the rich, "regal" hue?  I think it's lovely.  Hope you do, too.

Here is some more blue velvet inspiration.  Enjoy!

we love: the aerialist press

Invites are ordered and on their way!  I can't believe it's time to send wedding invitations to our family and friends; our engagement is flying by!

When it came time to select our paper (which for me, was one of the most important elements) I knew without a doubt we would use The Aerialist Press.  Hillary used them back in 2010 for her wedding and it was absolutely perfect.  Alexandra was a dream to work with and put up with my (roughly) 90 emails about spacing, proofs, colors, paper, wording, etc.  I am so excited to have been able to work with them.  Alexandra, a big thank you to you!

I cannot wait to see our invitations in person.  We chose the "Quill" house wedding suite and I loved it the moment I laid eyes on it.  Here are two other fantastic designs for you to enjoy.  Be sure to check out their website or find them on Facebook; you will love them!

wine country, here we come!

A lovely and exciting weekend is upon us -- our big sister, Lauren, is getting married Saturday in beautiful wine country! This place to be exact. Almost a year ago we announced her engagement on the blog with a few inspirational wedding planning photos - so fun to look back at what we thought it would be like compared now to what all she has planned. Wine country in June will be the perfect setting and we will be celebrating the most perfect couple. S & I leave today with our handsome dates and we can't wait to update you with photos and stories.

Below are a few photos teasing the wedding, and Lauren (they were too cute not to post). Look for some wedding photos to come next week!

Isn't it eerily similar to the photo included in her engagement post?
